18 साल का इंतजार खत्म हुआ और 18 नंबर की जर्सी वाले विराट कोहली का सपना आखिरकार पूरा हुआ। रॉयल चैलेंजर्स बेंगलुरु ने पंजाब किंग्स को रौंदकर अपने करोड़ों चाहने वालों बड़ा गिफ्ट दे दिया। खिताबी मुकाबले में विराट कोहली की टीम ने 190 रन बनाए थे, जबकि पंजाब की टीम अच्छी शुरुआत के बावजूद लक्ष्य तक नहीं पहुंच सकी।

वह जीत से सिर्फ 6 रन दूर रह गई, जबकि शशांक सिंह की 30 गेंदों में 3 चौके और 6 छक्के की मदद से खेली गई नाबाद 61 रनों की पारी बेकार गई। जीत की सुगंध तभी मिल गई थी जब श्रेयस अय्यर एक रन पर आउट हुए। उस समय विराट का आक्रामक जश्न पूरी कहानी बयां कर रहा था। जब आखिरी ओवर में लगा कि अब जीत से कोई रोक नहीं सकता तो विराट कोहली की आंखों में आंसू थे। वह रो पड़े थे। भावनाओं का गुबार रोकते नहीं रुक रहा था। दूसरी ओर, पंजाब के चाहने वाले निराशा में डूब चुके थे।

191 रनों के पहाड़ सरीखे लक्ष्य का पीछा करने उतरी पंजाब किंग्स की टीम को अनकैप्ड प्रियांश आर्य और प्रभसिमरन सिंह ने अच्छी शुरुआत दी। इन दोनों ने पहले विकेट के लिए 5 ओवरों में 43 रन जोड़े। इसी स्कोर पर प्रियांश को जोश हेजलवुड ने अपनी रणनीति के अनुसार की गई गेंद पर शिकार बनाया। डीप स्क्वेयर लेग बाउंड्री पर फिल साल्ट ने कमाल का कैच लपका। उन्होंने पहले गेंद को पकड़ा, लेकिन जब बाउंड्री से बाहर जाने लगे तो गेंद को अंदर की ओर उछालकर वापस लपक लिया। इस तरह से प्रियांश आर्य की पारी 24 रनों पर खत्म हो गई। उन्होंने 19 गेंदों का सामना किया, जबकि 4 चौके लगाए।
